The latest CD collection I have produced with George Mims from St. Martin’s Episcopal Choir is out. It is available from St. Martin’s bookstore. It has already been receiving some great feedback and reviews. Dave Mallette from the Klipsch forum gave it a great review see it here.
But first, just for some encouragement to read the whole thing here is a sample:
“Perfection.
There, I said it.
These recordings are not just good; they are “No way, unbelievable, our lady of tonal purity is with us. Glory Hallelujah!” good.
Get this: better than vinyl good. “ -Dave Mallette
Here are a few more reviews:
“Presiding over the musical aspects of the day was the capable George Mims, ably assisted by David Henning and a host of choristers and instrumentalists. …There were generous amounts of music for the congregation to sing including a segment of the hymn tune Houston by Kathleen Thomerson as the Gloria with an appropriate text. Included also were a couple of effective communion hymns arranged by George Mims. The music throughout was obviously well thought out and presented beautifully in a space with good reverberation time. …All was presented, worship and concert, with mellowness and coolness and utmost professional care, and we AAM members found it fascinating.” Review by Judith Cecilia Dodge

“During the many years in which I have been the host and producer of the nationally syndicated program With Heart and Voice, I have played many, many recordings of national church choirs but none better than the choir of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas under their Music Director George Ellis Mims. I was particularly impressed with this choirs first CD, Hope and Comfort, and the repertory chosen by George Mims, all of which were sung superbly by this joyous ensemble. The solos were great as were the accompaniments. Now we have a really big challenge in this 4 CD set, each of which is appropriately named for its scriptural and musical content: "Send Out Thy Spirit, Sing Ye to the Lord, Alleluia, He Is Coming and Abide With Me. Here again the choir is at its best. It is not always easy to sing or play in a large acoustical space but I was delighted with the balance between the choir and the organ and the various instrumental ensembles. Well done choir, well done George.”
